Ingredients
Scale
Casserole
- 2 cans refrigerated cinnamon rolls with icing (17.5 oz each)
- 4 large eggs
- 0.5 cup heavy cream
- 0.25 cup milk
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
Glaze
- 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 to 2 tablespoons milk (for thinning glaze)
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish to prevent sticking and set aside.
- Cut Cinnamon Rolls: Cut each cinnamon roll into quarters and evenly spread the pieces in the prepared baking dish, forming the base of the casserole.
- Make Custard: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, milk, ground cinnamon, vanilla extract, and maple syrup until smooth and combined.
- Pour Custard: Evenly pour the custard mixture over the cut cinnamon roll pieces in the baking dish, pressing gently to ensure all pieces are coated with custard.
- Bake Casserole: Bake the casserole uncovered in the preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the top is puffed and golden brown. Once done, remove from the oven and let it cool slightly.
- Prepare Glaze: While the casserole is baking, combine the softened cream cheese, melted butter, powdered sugar, and milk in a bowl. Mix thoroughly to create a smooth glaze, adjusting milk quantity to achieve desired consistency.
- Glaze and Serve: Drizzle the cream cheese glaze over the warm casserole. Optionally, top with the reserved cinnamon roll icing and additional maple syrup for extra sweetness. Slice into servings and serve warm.
Notes
- Use refrigerated cinnamon rolls for convenience, but feel free to use homemade cinnamon rolls if preferred.
- Adjust the amount of maple syrup in the custard according to your preferred sweetness level.
- The glaze can be thinned with more milk if it’s too thick for drizzling.
- For a dairy-free version, substitute heavy cream and milk with plant-based alternatives and use dairy-free cream cheese.
- Ensure not to overbake; the casserole should be puffed but still moist inside.
