Ingredients
Scale
Wonton Cups
- 12 wonton wrappers
- Cooking spray, for greasing muffin tin
Filling
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 2 fresh jalapenos, diced (seeds and membranes removed for mild heat)
- 1/2 cup cooked ground beef or beef bacon bits
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Muffin Tin: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 12-cup standard muffin tin with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Dice Jalapenos: Carefully dice your fresh jalapenos after removing all seeds and white membranes to reduce the spiciness for a milder flavor.
- Mix Filling: In a medium bowl, combine softened cream cheese, shredded Monterey Jack and cheddar cheeses, diced jalapenos, and cooked ground beef or beef bacon bits. Season with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper, mixing everything thoroughly.
- Form Wonton Cups: Gently press each wonton wrapper into the muffin tin cups, forming little cup shapes ready for the filling.
- Fill Wonton Cups: Using a small spoon or cookie scoop, spoon about 1 to 1.5 tablespoons of the jalapeno popper filling into each wonton cup, evenly distributing the mixture.
- Bake: Place the muffin tin in the preheated oven and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the wonton wrappers turn golden brown and crisp on the edges.
- Cool and Serve: Remove the muffin tin from the oven carefully, allow the wonton cups to cool in the tin for about 5 minutes, then gently lift them out. Serve warm for the best taste and texture.
Notes
- To adjust the heat level, leave some or all of the jalapeno seeds and membranes in if you prefer a spicier bite.
- Ground turkey or chicken can be substituted for ground beef for a lighter filling.
- Make sure cream cheese is softened to easily mix the filling ingredients together.
- Wonton cups can be prepared ahead and stored in the refrigerator before baking for convenience.
- Serve with ranch or blue cheese dressing for an extra flavor boost.
