A quick and flavorful Honey Garlic Shrimp with Sausage and Broccoli dish combining sweet and savory elements, perfect for a wholesome 30-minute dinner served over white rice.
Ingredients
Scale
Sauce and Marinade
- 1/3 cup honey
- 1/3 cup soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
Protein
- 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 13 ounces kielbasa sausage, sliced
Vegetables
- 1 head broccoli florets
Serving
- Cooked white rice
Instructions
- Prepare the sauce: In a bowl, whisk together honey, soy sauce, lemon juice, minced garlic, and red pepper flakes until the mixture is smooth and well combined. Reserve two-thirds of this sauce for later use.
- Marinate shrimp: Place the shrimp and the remaining one-third of the sauce into a zip-top bag. Seal and refrigerate, allowing the shrimp to marinate for at least 20 minutes to soak up the flavors.
- Cook broccoli: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the broccoli florets and cook until they are tender-crisp, about 4-5 minutes. Remove the broccoli from the skillet and set aside.
- Brown sausage: Using the same skillet, add the sliced kielbasa sausage. Cook over medium heat until the slices are browned and crispy on the edges, approximately 5-6 minutes.
- Cook shrimp: Add the marinated shrimp to the skillet with the sausage, discarding the leftover marinade to avoid contamination. Cook the shrimp until they turn pink and are fully cooked through, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add sauce and combine: Pour the reserved honey garlic sauce into the skillet. Let it simmer for 3-5 minutes to thicken slightly and coat the shrimp and sausage evenly. Finally, toss in the cooked broccoli to warm through before serving.
- Serve: Spoon the shrimp, sausage, and broccoli mixture over cooked white rice and enjoy your flavorful meal.
Notes
- Marinating the shrimp enhances the flavor but do not marinate for longer than 30 minutes to avoid texture changes.
- Use fresh or frozen broccoli florets depending on availability; just adjust cooking time a bit if using frozen.
- To make the dish spicier, increase the red pepper flakes according to taste.
- Olive oil or any neutral oil can be used for cooking the broccoli and sausage.
- Discard leftover marinade used on raw shrimp to ensure food safety.
