Ingredients
Scale
Gelatin Mixture
- 2 (3 oz) boxes flavored Jello (raspberry, cherry, grape, orange, or any preferred flavor)
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 cup cold water (or club soda or Sprite for fizz)
Mix-ins and Garnishes
- 8 oz tub whipped topping (such as Cool Whip or real whipped cream)
- 1 cup mini marshmallows (optional, can use colored ones for parties)
- Fresh berries or canned fruit for garnish (strawberries, mandarins, or preferred fruit)
Instructions
- Mix the Jello powder: Dump the Jello powder into a large mixing bowl, making sure the bowl is big enough to hold all ingredients comfortably.
- Add boiling water: Pour 1 cup of boiling water over the gelatin powder and whisk vigorously for a couple of minutes until the powder is fully dissolved and no grainy bits remain.
- Stir in cold water: Add 1 cup of cold water or a fizzy substitute like club soda or Sprite. The mixture will bubble up—this is normal, just stir it gently.
- Cool the mixture: Let the gelatin mixture cool for 10-15 minutes at room temperature to help the whipped topping incorporate better.
- Fold in whipped topping: Gently fold 8 oz of whipped topping into the gelatin mixture, swirling it until the color is even and the texture looks cloud-like. Avoid over-mixing to maintain the fluffy texture.
- Add mini marshmallows: Stir in 1 cup of mini marshmallows with a light, lazy stir to distribute them evenly.
- Transfer and chill: Pour the mixture into a serving dish such as a glass bowl, cake pan, or mason jars for individual servings.
- Refrigerate: Refrigerate for at least 3 hours, preferably overnight, to allow the gelatin to set and flavors to meld.
- Garnish and serve: Right before serving, scatter fresh berries or canned fruit on top for a festive and colorful finish.
Notes
- Using club soda or Sprite instead of cold water adds a fun fizz to the dessert.
- Colored mini marshmallows can make this recipe extra festive for kids’ birthdays or parties.
- Letting the Jello cool before adding whipped topping helps preserve the fluffy texture.
- Over-mixing the whipped topping can cause the dessert to lose its light, layered effect.
- Serve chilled and fresh fruit garnish is recommended for the best presentation and taste.
