Description
This Philly Cheesesteak Dip is a creamy, savory appetizer inspired by the classic Philly cheesesteak sandwich. Loaded with tender roast beef, caramelized onions, green bell peppers, and a blend of melted cheeses, it is baked to bubbly perfection and garnished with fresh parsley and green onions. Perfect for parties or casual gatherings, this dip pairs wonderfully with baguette slices, tortilla chips, crackers, or fresh veggies.
Ingredients
Scale
Meat and Vegetables
- 1 lb roast beef deli meat (sliced and chopped into ¼ inch pieces)
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 medium onion (diced)
- 1 large green bell pepper (chopped)
Dairy and Cheese
- 8 ounces cream cheese (1 brick, 250 grams, room temperature)
- ½ cup sour cream
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese (shredded)
- 8 slices provolone cheese (chopped into ¼ inch pieces, or substitute with 1 cup shredded mozzarella or Swiss cheese)
Seasoning and Garnish
- ¼ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper (or to taste)
- Fresh parsley (finely chopped, for garnish)
- Green onion (sliced, for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Dish: Preheat your oven to 375℉. Grease an oven-safe baking dish or skillet with cooking spray and set it aside to prepare for the dip.
- Sauté Vegetables: In a large skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter. Add the diced onion and sauté for 4-5 minutes until it becomes lightly caramelized. Then, add the chopped green bell pepper and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the peppers are tender.
- Combine Creamy Base and Cheese: While the vegetables are cooking, in a medium-sized bowl, add the softened cream cheese, sour cream, shredded mozzarella cheese, and chopped provolone cheese. Stir these together until evenly combined to form a creamy cheese mixture.
- Add Meat, Seasoning, and Vegetables: To the cheese mixture, add the chopped roast beef deli meat, salt, black pepper, and the sautéed onions and bell peppers. Stir everything together until well incorporated. Optionally, reserve a tablespoon of the meat and cooked vegetables for garnish.
- Assemble Dip: Spread the mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish or skillet. If using, distribute the reserved meat and vegetable mixture over the top for a decorative garnish.
- Bake the Dip: Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 15-18 minutes until the dip is hot and bubbly. Then uncover and bake for an additional 2-3 minutes to slightly brown the top.
- Garnish and Serve: Remove the dip from the oven and sprinkle freshly chopped parsley and sliced green onions on top. Serve immediately with sliced baguette, tortilla chips, crackers, or fresh vegetables for dipping.
Notes
- For best results, use cream cheese at room temperature to ensure easy mixing and smooth texture.
- You can substitute provolone cheese with mozzarella or Swiss cheese based on your preference.
- If roast beef deli meat is not available, thinly sliced cooked steak or leftover roast beef can be used as alternatives.
- Serve the dip warm for optimal creaminess and flavor.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven or microwave.
