Ingredients
Scale
Steak and Onions
- 1-inch thick ribeye steak (1 per serving)
- 2 large sweet onions, sliced
- 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- 2 tablespoons butter
- Salt, to taste
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)
French Fries
- 4 servings of French fries (homemade or frozen, about 600g or 1.3 lbs)
Instructions
- Preheat skillet: Heat a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat until hot, then add the extra virgin olive oil to the pan.
- Season and sear the ribeye: Generously season the ribeye steak on both sides with salt and freshly ground black pepper. Place the steak in the hot skillet and sear for 4 to 5 minutes on each side until a golden-brown crust forms and desired doneness is reached.
- Caramelize onions: While the steak cooks, melt butter in a separate pan over medium heat. Add the sliced sweet onions and sauté, stirring occasionally, until they become soft and golden brown, about 10-12 minutes.
- Top steak with onions: Remove the steak from the skillet and let it rest briefly. Then, layer the warm caramelized onions on top of the ribeye steak to enhance its rich flavor.
- Cook French fries: Prepare the French fries according to the package instructions or your homemade method, cooking them until crispy and golden brown.
- Plate and garnish: Serve each ribeye steak topped with caramelized onions alongside a generous portion of crispy French fries. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired for a fresh herbaceous note.
Notes
- Use a cast-iron skillet for best searing results and flavor.
- Allow the steak to rest a few minutes after cooking to retain juices.
- Adjust seasoning on onions and steak to your preference.
- You can substitute butter with ghee or clarified butter for a different flavor.
- Homemade fries add a fresh touch but frozen fries are a convenient shortcut.
- For medium-rare, aim for an internal temperature of 130-135°F (54-57°C).
