Description

This delicious Salmon Grilled Cheese recipe combines flaky cooked salmon, sharp cheddar cheese, and fresh dill in a buttery toasted sandwich. Ready in just 25 minutes, it’s a quick and satisfying twist on a classic grilled cheese with a flavorful seafood punch.

Ingredients

Scale

Salmon and Seasoning

  • 2 fresh salmon fillets
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (freshly squeezed)

Bread and Toppings

  • 4 slices of bread
  • Butter (enough to butter both sides of bread slices)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped

Instructions

  1. Season the salmon: Sprinkle salt and pepper evenly over the salmon fillets, then drizzle with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice to enhance the flavor.
  2. Cook the salmon: Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook the salmon fillets until they are flaky and fully cooked through, approximately 4-5 minutes per side depending on thickness. Remove from heat and set aside.
  3. Prepare the bread: Butter one side of each of the four bread slices evenly, ensuring full coverage for a crispy golden crust.
  4. Start assembling the sandwich: Place one slice of the bread buttered side down onto the skillet heated over medium heat.
  5. Add fillings: Layer shredded cheddar cheese over the bread, followed by the cooked salmon fillet, thinly sliced red onion, and chopped fresh dill for bright, fresh flavor.
  6. Top the sandwich: Place a second slice of bread on top of the layered fillings, ensuring the buttered side is facing up.
  7. Cook the sandwich: Grill the sandwich over medium heat until the bottom slice of bread is golden brown and crispy and the cheese begins to melt, about 3-4 minutes.
  8. Flip and finish cooking: Carefully flip the sandwich and cook the other side until it is also golden brown and the cheese is fully melted, approximately another 3-4 minutes.

Notes

  • For even cooking, use bread slices of similar thickness.
  • Use fresh salmon fillets for best flavor and texture.
  • Feel free to substitute cheddar with other melty cheeses like Gruyere or mozzarella.
  • Serve immediately for best texture and melty cheese.
  • Add a squeeze of lemon juice or a dash of hot sauce for an extra flavor boost.
