Ingredients
Scale
Salmon and Seasoning
- 2 fresh salmon fillets
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
Bread and Toppings
- 4 slices of bread
- Butter (enough to butter both sides of bread slices)
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/4 red onion, thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped
Instructions
- Season the salmon: Sprinkle salt and pepper evenly over the salmon fillets, then drizzle with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice to enhance the flavor.
- Cook the salmon: Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook the salmon fillets until they are flaky and fully cooked through, approximately 4-5 minutes per side depending on thickness. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Prepare the bread: Butter one side of each of the four bread slices evenly, ensuring full coverage for a crispy golden crust.
- Start assembling the sandwich: Place one slice of the bread buttered side down onto the skillet heated over medium heat.
- Add fillings: Layer shredded cheddar cheese over the bread, followed by the cooked salmon fillet, thinly sliced red onion, and chopped fresh dill for bright, fresh flavor.
- Top the sandwich: Place a second slice of bread on top of the layered fillings, ensuring the buttered side is facing up.
- Cook the sandwich: Grill the sandwich over medium heat until the bottom slice of bread is golden brown and crispy and the cheese begins to melt, about 3-4 minutes.
- Flip and finish cooking: Carefully flip the sandwich and cook the other side until it is also golden brown and the cheese is fully melted, approximately another 3-4 minutes.
Notes
- For even cooking, use bread slices of similar thickness.
- Use fresh salmon fillets for best flavor and texture.
- Feel free to substitute cheddar with other melty cheeses like Gruyere or mozzarella.
- Serve immediately for best texture and melty cheese.
- Add a squeeze of lemon juice or a dash of hot sauce for an extra flavor boost.
