Description

Tropical Burgers combine juicy, seasoned beef patties with sweet grilled pineapple and melty cheese on toasted brioche buns. Enhanced with fresh lettuce, tomato, red onion, and a flavorful spread of teriyaki sauce, these burgers offer a perfect balance of savory and sweet, ideal for summer grilling or backyard barbecues.

Ingredients

Scale

Beef Patties

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef 80/20
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Toppings and Buns

  • 4 slices fresh pineapple
  • 4 slices provolone or Swiss cheese
  • 4 brioche burger buns, split
  • 4 lettuce leaves
  • 4 slices tomato
  • 1/4 cup red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup teriyaki sauce
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat Grill: Preheat a grill or stovetop grill pan to medium-high heat to ensure it is hot and ready for cooking the burgers and pineapple slices evenly.
  2. Prepare Patties: In a large bowl, gently combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Form the mixture into four equal-sized patties, pressing a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent puffing up during cooking.
  3. Prepare Pineapple: Lightly brush the pineapple slices with olive oil to aid caramelization and prevent sticking on the grill.
  4. Grill Burgers: Place the patties on the grill and cook for 4 to 5 minutes per side, or until they reach your preferred level of doneness. During the last minute of cooking, add a slice of cheese on top of each patty and let it melt.
  5. Grill Pineapple: Grill the pineapple slices for 2 to 3 minutes per side, until they develop a caramelized, lightly charred exterior.
  6. Toast Buns: Place the brioche buns cut side down on the grill and toast until lightly golden and slightly crisp.
  7. Assemble Burgers: Spread a spoonful of teriyaki sauce on the bottom half of each bun. Layer lettuce, tomato, and red onion slices on top. Place the cheeseburger patty over the vegetables, then top with a grilled pineapple slice. Finish with the top bun.
  8. Serve: Serve the tropical burgers immediately for best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Substitute ground turkey for a lighter option with less fat.
  • For extra flavor, mix a tablespoon of finely chopped fresh cilantro into the burger mixture before shaping.
  • Add a slice of crispy bacon for a sweet and savory twist.
