Ingredients
Scale
Cauliflower
- 1 head cauliflower (whole, intact)
Seasoning and liquids
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp paprika (smoked if available)
- 1/4 cup vegetable broth (or water + a pinch of salt)
Garnish (optional)
- Chopped parsley or any green garnish
Instructions
- Prepare the cauliflower: Remove large outer leaves from the cauliflower. Trim the stem slightly so the cauliflower head can sit flat inside the slow cooker for even cooking.
- Season the cauliflower: In a small bowl, combine olive oil, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Rub this mixture all over the cauliflower, making sure to get into the crevices for full flavor penetration.
- Place in slow cooker: Pour the vegetable broth into the bottom of the slow cooker. Carefully place the seasoned cauliflower head inside, core side down, then cover with the lid.
- Slow cook: Cook on the low setting for 3 to 4 hours until the cauliflower is fork-tender. For smaller cauliflower heads, cook about 2.5 hours. The slow cooker gently steams the cauliflower, enhancing its natural sweetness and tenderness.
- Optional broil for finish: For a golden, roasted appearance and added flavor, transfer the cooked cauliflower to a baking sheet and broil in your oven for 3 to 4 minutes. Watch carefully to prevent burning.
- Garnish and serve: Sprinkle chopped parsley or your garnishing choice over the cauliflower. Slice into wedges and serve warm as a flavorful side dish.
Notes
- Using smoked paprika adds a deeper, smoky flavor but regular paprika works well too.
- Broiling is optional but highly recommended for an attractive finish and extra texture.
- Make sure the cauliflower sits flat in the slow cooker to cook evenly.
- Vegetable broth adds moisture and flavor; water with salt can be substituted in a pinch.
- Adjust cooking time based on the size of your cauliflower to avoid overcooking.
